Golf Handicap

Golf handicap rules vary from place to place. Anyone who has ever been to a country club hears talk of players trying to improve their handicap. That means they are trying to better their game. Golfers want to play so well that they can score even par on a professional course.

The golfer turns in the score for the day by subtracting the handicap from the number of strokes taken. A handicap is determined in the United States by courses associated with the United States golf Association. A golf handicap is used by amateurs and not by pros.

Many people believe that a golf handicap only demonstrates a player's average score. However, this is not true. The handicap is determined to indicate the player's potential.
