Jimmy Ballard is the king of the "fire the right side" school of golf
instruction. In his book, he teaches a swing developed and handed down by Sam Byrd. Sam was a well known major league b aseball player in the late 20s, and early 30s who upon retirement from baseball, made a name
for himself on the professional golf tour. He was respected at least as much for his golf as he was as a baseball player. Jimmy does a good job at dispelling myths, and other erroneous thoughts about
the golf swing. He paints a simple picture of a "connected" golf swing through a discussion about seven common denominators seen in the swings of all the great
strikers of the ball. The work is extremely well illustrated, and easy to understand.
The swing taught in How to Perfect Your Golf Swing has been well tested under tournament conditions.
Jim Colbert learned this swing as a young man, and went on to success on the regular, and senior tours. Jim's fabulous run on the senior tour speaks well for the swing's longevity. Hal Sutton, and Jim
Dent both went to Jimmy for rejuvenation, and enjoyed tournament success after slumps lasting several years.
We like this book a lot, and recommend it for all players shooting in the 80s, or below, or who have at
least attained a full, freeflowing golf swing. Jimmy's discussion on connection could possibly bind up a
new student, and interfere with the learning of a full, free swing of the clubhead. For that reason we caution beginners!
