Commissioned by The Golf Society of Great Britain in 1968, this book
is billed by the publishers as "The Proven Scientific Approach to Fundamentally Improving Your Game." In print for over 30 years, it is a compilation of the most comprehensive scientific study of the golf swing ever undertaken.
We hold the notion that a player will swing according to the mental image they are of the golf swing. For this reason, we believe the acquisition of a really fine
swing requires the development of an accurate concept. And it is nearly impossible to gain that image from reports of positions, sensations, and body
movements made by a player with a fine swing. These elements are the effects of a swinging motion that was learned by most great players before they noticed them, or put words to them.
This is why we make our recommendations for How to Play Your Best Golf All the Time, Swing the Clubhead, and McLellan's Videos. We believe a player needs to develop a sense for a complete
freewheeling swing as a foundation. After that foundation is laid, Search for the Perfect Swing is an excellent reference for a more complete concept of an effective swing. We recommend it to those of you who are putting in a maximum effort to improve. For casual players, there is probably too much information.
