Swing The Clubhead

The teachings of Ernest Jones are of a distant generation, yet no one with the possible exception of Percy Boomer, has such an influence on modern day golf instruction. Jones is quoted in countless magazine articles, and golf instruction books by well known players and teachers, including Jack Nicklaus, and Gary McCord. McCord, most well known for his humor in golf broadcasts, is a very intelligent and serious student of the golf swing. In his book Golf for Dummies, McCord lists Swing the Clubhead as one of his Top Ten golf books. In the Spirit of St. Andrews, Alister MacKenzie, the famous golf course architect, says of Jones, "Ernest Jones is perhaps the world's most successful teacher."

When Jones was giving a lesson, he used only three words, swing club head. Alister MacKenzie, who knew him well, wrote: "When Jones is giving a lesson, you will hear him repeat hundreds of times, 'the club head, the head, the head.' " MacKenzie goes on to say:

"An onlooker may remark that the pupil in not pivoting correctly or his wrists are wrong, his left arm bent at the top of the swing, he is moving his head, he is not following through, he is pressing and not timing his shots and so on. Jones' invariable reply was, 'He is doing all those things and a hundred others as well, but DON'T LET HIM KNOW ABOUT IT. If a player concentrates on the movement of the hips or any other joint that assists in propelling the club head smoothly and rapidly, it will destroy all smoothness of rhythm and he will never will be able to swing his club head properly.' "
And we most emphatically agree.

Swinging the club head is not all there is to know about a golf swing, but until a player learns to make a full, freely flowing, accelerating swing of the club head through the ball, any additional knowledge is academic. This is the essential basic of any good golf swing, and is seen clearly in the swings of all great players. Their grips may go from very strong to very weak, some stand very upright, and some hunch over, some carry their hands very low, some swing flat, some swing upright, and so on, but each, and every one of the really successful players sweeps the club head through the ball zone with a full, well timed swing of the club head. And no matter how they get there, they all look nearly identical at the point of impact. Swing the Club Head is the "KEYSTONE" thought for learning a sound golf swing.

This book is our NUMBER ONE recommendation for players at all levels. It is a must read for beginners and others who are missing a full, freewheeling swing to a complete finish.
